Important 18th Century Chinese Coromandel Lacquer Screen
Rare and fine 18th century Chinese coromandel lacquer six panels screen. This beautiful examples of carved polychromed and gilt Chinese lacquer work features a view of a mountainous landscapes on the shores of what is seemingly the Guangxi river. The scene depicts the prosperous activities of various sailing vessels on the river, the shore lined with a sinuous road featuring bridges and various building depicting the traditional life of Chinese scholars and citizens. The scene is surrounded by a beautifully decorated border depicting various precious ancient objects such as a scepter, archaic vessels, Bi disks, flowers and animals. The screen is signed with incised signature in Chinese calligraphy, the back is simply black lacquered with some gilt foliage painted decorations. China: circa 1750
