Important Abundantly Decorated Gilt Bronze Mounted Louis XV Style Commode
Rare and important Louis XV style commode after an 18th century model designed by Antoine Robert Gaudreau ebeniste of king Louis XV. The original commode was made for the King's private chambers in the palace of Versaille in 1739 and is now on display at the Wallace Collection in London, England. This fine example was done in the 1860s with intricate marquetry abundantly decorated with finely cast and chased gilt bronze mounts showing both neoclassical , and Rococo attributes. The design of this "commode d'apparat " is a great example of the transition from the Louis XIV to the Louis XV style. It is fitted with its original three inches thick shaped and moulded Breche De Medicis marble top and features a set of four drawers flanking the central cartouche.
