Important Pair of Black Lacquered Gilt Decorated Doors by Paul Etienne Saïn,
Important pair of black lacquered and gilt decorated doors by Paul Etienne Saïn, each decorated with a hunting scene in applied gold leaf . Showing perfect technical mastery, the composition of these panels revisits a classic of art history : the hunting scene. The background in dark eggplant color is intricately decorated with a depiction of the hunters and their dogs holding a crossbow and spear with a casle in the background. The doors are composed of 2 panels with a lock. Signed: "Paul Étienne Sain" France: circa 1950. Provenance: Important Parisian Collection. While continuing to work for other designers, Paul Etienne Saïn began to conceive original works. Proven technician, he favored large decorative compositions, the iridescence of gold and silver and was inspired by the works of the ancient Chinese lacquers of "Coromandel". Close to Jean Dunand, he decorated the walls of the private restaurant of the liner Atlantique in 1931. With this success, he participate in the adventure of the liner "Normandie", by providing wall decorations for 24 cabins. Twenty other ships followed, as well as the mythical fleet of seaplanes Latécoères. His last prestigious order, dated in 1962, for the dining room "Chambord" on the France oceanliner , composed of monumental scenes illustrating the "Joys of Life".
