Rare and Important Orientalist Console Table & Mirror by Carlo Bugatti
Rare and important Orientalist console table and mirror by Carlo Bugatti (Italian,1856-1940). This elegant Moorish design is made of intricately carved and ebonized walnut inlaid with pewter, bone and copper, partially covered with parchment. The upper part featuring an arched mirror plate flanked by a pair of turned metal decorated columns surmounted by a gallery top inset with bone and carved finials.The lower part of the console table is beautifully fitted with three hanging tassels that extend over a vellum panel illustrated with a scene of ibises over pewter inlaid calligraphy designs.Carlo Bugatti was a famous designer active at the turn of the century. His pieces are rare and highly prized. He was the father of Rembrandt Bugatti who was a renowned sculptor, his work is also highly valuable and very rare since he died at 32. Python Skin Mirror by Karl Springer
Important python skin covered rectangular mirror by Karl Springer , bearing painted brass manufacturer's label to reverse ‘Karl Springer’. With authentication from Tom Langevin, former director of Karl Springer, Ltd. USA: circa 1975 Mr. Springer's quest for high quality imbued his work with an unrivaled sense of scale and proportion, and his attention to detail and devotion to uncompromising craftsmanship won him respect throughout the design industry. His work was sought out by the best designers of the two decades to follow, finding its way into the homes of, among others, Jackie Onassis, Diana Ross, and Frank Sinatra. By the 1970s he had opened a large showroom in New York City; galleries in Miami, Los Angeles and Tokyo were to follow. His business, Karl Springer Ltd., would, by the nineties, have outlets in Munich and Chicago.

Stylish acid etched brass and fossilized wood circular mirror by Georges Mathias. Signed: "Georges Mathias". Belgium circa: 1970 Early in his career, he worked for Philips Design as an industrial designer. He also worked for Toshiba as head of the design department. Later, he was recruited by Sony as head of industrial design for the Europe division. In 1984, Georges Mathias established his own design company, Georges Mathias Design, which has worked for many renowned companies such as Renault, Hermès and Louis Vuitton. He also taught design at the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris. Georges Mathias is recognized for his functional and aesthetic approach to design, with an emphasis on simplicity and efficiency. He has been rewarded several times for his work, notably by the Prix de la Ville de Paris in 1983, the Prix de l'Observeur du Design in 1998 and the Design Prize of the Île-de-France region in 2003.

Important Trapezoidal Form Mirror by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte
Important trapezoidal form, plate glass mirror by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte. The mirror consists of a one inch thick, concave glass backing, supporting a floating mirror plate, mounted on a cream coloured, lacquered wood brace. Italy: circa 1950. This piece is highly indicative in its quality and design of the craftsmanship and simple elegance for which Ingrand was famous. Bearing original maker’s sticker, which reads: “Fontanit Luigi Fontana Italy Milano.” Fig. 432 of Franco Deboni’s reference book Fontana Arte shows a conceptual drawing for this mirror, and fig 451 shows the mirror on display at the Fontana Arte boutique in Milan, circa 1957. “Light is the manifestation of life, artificial light is the continuity of life, because it maintains contact with the world and glorifies reality and transfigures it.” -Max Ingrand. Max Ingrand was born in France in 1908. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratfis in Paris and later apprenticed with the legendary master of Art Nouveau glass Jacques Gruber. Afterwards he began his own art glass studio with his wife Paule, which quickly brought them international renown. He was selected by Gio Ponti to head Fontana Arte in 1954 following the death of Pietro Chiesa, where he presided over a period of growth and innovation, creating many iconic Fontana Arte designs, some of which are still in production today. During this period he also continued to work with his own studio in Paris and was the president of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs. He died suddenly of influenza in 1969, at which point the directorship of Fontana Arte went briefly to Gio Ponti. Provenance: Private collection Robin Dery Montreal Canada
