Steel Cinetic Object "Tetracono SM" by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano
Steel and Aluminium Cinetic Object "Tetracono SM" by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano. Paper manufacturer's label to underside ‘Bruno Munari 1965 Tetracono S.M. cinquanta esemplari numerati e firmati esemplare n. 28 Munari Edizioni Danese Milano’. This work is number 18 from the edition of 50. This kinetic sculpture is comprised of four rotating cones which alternate between green and red. Italy: circa 1965 the object was originally intended by danese milano as an artist's multiple, to circulate at a price closer to a consumer product. it was intended to be industrially manufactured. turns out neither of these ws true in the end. the first version had motors to turn the cones and it was a resounding technical flop. this second version without motors was motivated by an exhibition in amsterdam at tghe stedlijk museum. 50 copies were made, but they were not really at an industrial scale. basically, some guy in one of munari's students' studios who knew how to operate a lathe produced the series.
