Set of Six Georgian Hall Chairs
Fine set of six George III period mahogany hall chairs, the shield shaped backs with inset painted heraldic devices, on plank seats, the trestle bases with arched silhouette feet joined by cross brace, the whole with good rich color and patination. The design for these English hall chairs was derived from the Italian renaissance Sgabello chairs, which were occasionally brought back from Italy by gentlefolk returning from their grand tours.

Rare and important carved mahogany Empire Period armchair by Jacob Desmalter
Rare and important carved mahogany Empire Period armchair by Jacob Desmalter, France circa 1810, of neoclassical form inspired by the design of Percier et Fontaine, architects to the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the armrests beautifully carved with leopards heads and torso, the front legs ending in carved paw feet. Attributed to Jacob Desmalter. France, circa 1800. Provenance: The front under railing stencilled “Raincy” also period paper labels hand written: Mre Duque Orlean, Grand Salon, Palais Royal. This chair was part of a large salon suite (this one is number 45) belonging to King Louis Philippe - Duke of Orléans - the last king of France. An almost identical model was known to be part of the collection of Molly de Balkany who had an important collection of Empire furniture. Sister of Robert De Balkany - a real estate mogul -and once married to Marie Gabrielle de Savoie - daughter of the last king of Italy. Seat hight 17 in.

Celestial Light Fixture
Unusual American wrought iron and bronze light fixture in the form of a globe with Zodiac ring in pierced bronze probably designed by Cass Gilbert and made for the Hartford CT based department store G. Fox and Co, circa 1918. The original store was destroyed by fire in 1916 and its replacement, designed by Gilbert, opened in 1918. This light was removed after a later remodeling and remained in the collection of the granddaughter of the founder, Beatrice Fox Auerbach. Can be used as shown, or wall or ceiling mounted. Can also hold a 24" diameter glass globe
