Suite of Bugatti Furniture
Rare and important suite of six pieces of furniture by Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) comprising a writing desk, a center table, a settee and three chairs all in walnut and ebonised wood, inlaid with pewter, copper, brass and bone, fitted with hammered copper reliefs and upholstered with vellum. Turin, Italy circa 1902. Carlo Bugatti was a famous designer active at the turn of the century. His pieces are rare and highly prized. He was the father of Rembrandt Bugatti who was a renowned sculptor, his work is also highly valuable and very rare since he died at 32. Ettore Bugatti, his other son founded the Bugatti Motor Car Company. Provenance: purchased from the descendants of the original owners - a Romanian family. The pieces were purchased directly from the Carlo Bugatti workshop in 1902. All the pieces bare the export stamp from Bucharest. Sold except the table -

Swedish 19th Century Inlaid Center Table in the Manner of George Haupt.
Very fine Swedish 19th Century gilt bronze mounted center table in the manner of George Haupt. In mixed woods, the top with marquetry basket of flowers withing an oval on a satin birch ground with eliptic curve string inlay and having a kingwood and aramanth band and gilt bronze edging with sausage and bead detail, over inlaid apron with inlaid trompe l’oeil fluting and swags. Standing on square tapered legs with inlaid bellflowers and patera, ending in bronze capped feet. Georg Haupt, born in 1741-1784, was a Swedish craftsman and one of the most famous designers of Gustavian furniture. He became a cabinetmaker to King Adolphus Frederick in 1769. He was burgess of Stockholm in 1770 and 1771.

Rare pair of cast bronze and cocktail tables by Jean Claude Dresse each inset with a polish agate stone, supported by a painted black iron base. Signed "Dresse 76" etched in bronze. Belgium: circa 1976 Jean Claude Dresse (1946-) is a Belgian artist and designer. He graduated from the art academy in Charleroi. His background of being a visual artist is clearly visible in his furniture designs as he uses artistic techniques such as mosaic and etchings. His oeuvre embodies designs made of precious metals such as brass and copper. Together with his father Marcel, he was a prominent figure in the furniture business in the 1980s and belonged to the artistic Walloon School that focused on glamorous aesthetics. After he and his father were successful as designers Jean Claude embarked on a career as a visual artist. Dresse designed many furniture pieces on commission, which means that a large part of these items is custom-made.
