Hammered Silver Plated Centerpiece by Luc Lanel for Christofle resting on a rounded circular base topped by a pedestal comprising four spheres. Hallmarks to Underbase. France: circa 1930. Artistic director at Christofle until 1942 This model wasmade for the first classes of the S.S. Normandie liner with a beautiful art deco line of round shape the domed foot topped with 4 spheres connected by a disc. There are two different finishes for this cup one hammered with 2 circles at the bottom the other smooth mirror LIterature Described with large picture in book Lanel, Luc & Marjolaine, Dominique Forest, Editions Norma, page 12 and 13 The designer and ceramist had received his training at the École des arts décoratifs in Paris. He worked mainly with silver or silver-plated metals as well as bronze for the companies Süe et Mare and - as head of the galvanoplastic department - for Christofle, Paris. From 1920 to 1946, as a skilled illustrator, he was also responsible for the company's advertisements. Together with the furniture designer Jules Leleu, he received various commissions for interiors and cruise ships. As early as 1928, he created various ceramics in collaboration with his wife Marjolaine Girardet. After the end of the Second World War, the couple concentrated almost exclusively on ceramic work. In addition to regular participation in the Paris Salons and other exhibitions at home and abroad, he also appeared at the Exposition Internationale des Art Décoratifs et Industriels in 1925, as well as at the 1937 Paris World's Fair.
