Colorful Abstract Gouache by Gio Colucci
Gio Colucci, painter, sculptor, ceramist was born in Florence, Italy in 1892. In 1911, he moved to Paris to study architecture at the Fine Art School. Colucci settled in Cairo in 1914 where he worked as an architect. In 1917, he gave up architecture and began painting. He went to the United States and brought back many canvas. Upon returning to Paris in 1919, Colucci exhibited at the Allard Gallery. In 1921 and 1923, he participated in the Salon d’Automne and in the Salon des Surindépendants with Gleizes, Herbin, Duchamp-Villon. Colucci returned to Paris in 1945 and exhibited his ceramics at the Christofle Gallery. In 1947, he took part in the Salon des Décorateurs in Paris, and in 1952 exhibited his ceramics at the Vallauris Museum in Provence. The same year the Odéon Gallery exhibited his polychromed sculptures which have a total expression of liberty. In 1954, Colucci participated in the Salon des Indépendants at the Grand Palais Museum where he showed sculptures and ceramics. Gio Colucci participated in the third Biennale dedicated to sculpture in 1955 in Antwerp in Belgium. In 1956, Colucci founded, along with Gino Severini, the Italian School of Arts and in 1959, a retrospective was held at the Juster’s Gallery in New York as well as at the Rodin Museum in Paris. A retrospective of his work is organized in New York in 1963. The Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris exhibited several polychromed wood-based sculptures, ceramics but also painted and sticked Arcopal glass by Colucci. The artist died in Paris in 1974. Rare welded steel polychrom two door cabinet by Paul Evans. Signed: "Paul Evans 72". USA 1972 This cabinet is hand made by Paul Evans and his assistant . The front doors are made by welding odd shaped pieces of steel together creating an abstract design , the different pieces are then individually patinated with acids and gold leaf to achieve a rich polychromed mosaic . Set of Six Georgian Hall Chairs
Fine set of six George III period mahogany hall chairs, the shield shaped backs with inset painted heraldic devices, on plank seats, the trestle bases with arched silhouette feet joined by cross brace, the whole with good rich color and patination. The design for these English hall chairs was derived from the Italian renaissance Sgabello chairs, which were occasionally brought back from Italy by gentlefolk returning from their grand tours.

Rare and important carved mahogany Empire Period armchair by Jacob Desmalter, France circa 1810, of neoclassical form inspired by the design of Percier et Fontaine, architects to the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the armrests beautifully carved with leopards heads and torso, the front legs ending in carved paw feet. Attributed to Jacob Desmalter. France, circa 1800. Provenance: The front under railing stencilled “Raincy” also period paper labels hand written: Mre Duque Orlean, Grand Salon, Palais Royal. This chair was part of a large salon suite (this one is number 45) belonging to King Louis Philippe - Duke of Orléans - the last king of France. An almost identical model was known to be part of the collection of Molly de Balkany who had an important collection of Empire furniture. Sister of Robert De Balkany - a real estate mogul -and once married to Marie Gabrielle de Savoie - daughter of the last king of Italy. Seat hight 17 in.
